Description
Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces tenebrarius targeting gram-negative bacteria. It is often used to combat Pseudomonas species. It has been used to study cystic fibrosis and a variety of respiratory infections. Tobramycin sulfate is freely soluble in aqueous solution.
Aminoglycoside antibiotics are composed of amino groups attached to glycosides. They bind the 30s ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of the mRNA sequence and inhibition of translocation. Consequently, protein synthesis is inhibited.
