Description
 4-Methylumbelliferyl-α- D-galactopyranoside is a fluorogenic substrate for α-galactosidase, yielding a blue fluorescent  solution upon cleavage. It is useful in the species differentiation  within the family of Enterobacteriaceae and in the localization of  α-galactosidase in plants.
