4-Methylumbelliferyl-beta-D-glucuronic acid is a florigenic substrate used to detect beta-glucuronidase. It is also used to detect E. coli contamination in food, water, blood samples and clinical samples, and is recommended for this purpose. It is also used to assay the glucuronidase gene of plants.
