Cefotaxime (Sodium) EZ Pak™ for 100 mg/mL Solution

Description

GoldBio’s Cefotaxime (Sodium) EZ Pak™ for 100 mg/mL Solution is an antibiotic solution preparation kit that simplifies and standardizes the preparation of sterile cefotaxime stock solutions.

The Cefotaxime (Sodium) EZ Pak™ is the fastest and easiest way to make a set amount of sterile cefotaxime (sodium) solution. Each EZ Pak™ includes pre-weighed cefotaxime sodium, a sterile filter, and a sterile container that allows you to generate a sterile, accurately concentrated antibiotic solution in minutes, without weighing, calculations, or cleanup.

Cefotaxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Cephalosporins are a type of β-lactam antibiotic consisting of a four-membered β-lactam ring bound to a six-membered dihydrothiazine ring. This two-ring system causes distortion of the β-lactam amide bond, resulting in decreased resonance stabilization and increased reactivity. β-lactams inhibit the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links within bacterial cell walls by targeting penicillin-binding proteins or PBPs. Consequently, the bacterial cell wall becomes weak and cytolysis occurs. Cephalosporins are less susceptible to β-lactamases than the penicillin β-lactam antibiotics.

Cefotaxime is commonly used in molecular biology and plant research, particularly for the control of Agrobacterium tumefaciens following plant transformation. Unlike many antibiotics used for bacterial selection, cefotaxime is often chosen for its effectiveness against Agrobacterium while being relatively non-toxic to plant tissues. The EZ Pak™ format ensures consistent 100 mg/mL stock solutions every time, making it ideal for labs performing plant transformation, tissue culture–adjacent workflows, and other sterile laboratory applications where reproducibility and ease of use are essential.

Key Benefits

No Weighing or Measuring Required: Pre-weighed Cefotaxime eliminates the need for a balance and prevents calculation errors.

Fast, Simple Preparation: Just add deionized water, filter, and then the solution is ready to use.

Consistent Concentration Every Time: Makes reliable 100 mg/mL stock solution.

Sterile by Design: Built-in filtration supports contamination-sensitive workflows.

Kit components

Pre-weighed Cefotaxime (Sodium) powder

Sterile filter

  • Syringe filter (10 mL pack size)
  • Vacuum filter (50 mL, and 100 mL pack sizes; requires vacuum manifold)

Sterile container for the filtered antibiotic solution

Common Applications

·         Preparation of sterile cefotaxime stock solutions for routine laboratory use

·         Control of Agrobacterium tumefaciens following plant transformation

·         Plant research requiring post-transformation bacterial suppression

·         Supplementation of plant tissue culture–related media where appropriate

Storage/Handling

Store desiccated at -20°C.
