Nourseothricin Sulfate (Streptothricin Sulfate) (NTC or clonNAT)

Description

Nourseothricin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic derived from Streptomyces noursei. In addition to being effective on prokaryotic cells of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, various fungi including Candida albicans, and certain DNA and RNA viruses, it is also effective on eukaryotic cells of higher eukaryotes. It has been used as a selection agent for cells containing the gene conferring resistance to it.

Although nourseothricin sulfate is a streptothricin antibiotic, it functions via a mechanism similar to that of the aminoglycoside antibiotics. It induces miscoding of mRNA and leads to inhibition of protein synthesis.

Antibiotics are often used in clinical in vitro tests known as antimicrobial susceptibility tests or ASTs to determine their efficacy against certain bacterial species. They are tested against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria using panels, discs, and MIC strips by medical microbiologists. ASTs decrease the risk of using an antibiotic against bacteria exhibiting resistance to it, and the results are used in clinical settings to determine which antibiotic(s) to prescribe for various infections.

GoldBio nourseothricin is a mixture of four streptothricin compounds: D and F (>85%) as well as C and E (<15%).

TESTED AGAINST BOTH SENSITIVE AND RESISTANT CELLS AT GOLD BIOTECHNOLOGY LABS.
