Description
Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic produced naturally by Streptomyces rimosus. It acts as a bacteriostatic protein synthesis inhibitor by binding the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit and interfering with aminoacyl-tRNA attachment during translation. It is active against numerous gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and several Mycoplasma species.
As the non-salt, non-hydrated form of oxytetracycline, this product provides researchers with the parent compound for microbiology and biochemical studies where a specific salt form is not required. It can be used to investigate bacterial growth, antibiotic susceptibility, tetracycline resistance mechanisms, ribosomal protein synthesis, and other aspects of antimicrobial activity.
