Description
Oxytetracycline Dihydrate is a tetracycline-class antibiotic originally derived from Streptomyces rimosus. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and preventing aminoacyl-tRNA from accessing the ribosomal A site. Its activity encompasses a range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as several Mycoplasma species.
Provided in the dihydrate form, this molecular biology grade antibiotic is useful for bacterial selection, antimicrobial susceptibility research, studies of tetracycline resistance mechanisms, and selective microbiological media. Oxytetracycline Dihydrate can also be used in research examining genes such as otrA, which is associated with ribosomal protection and oxytetracycline resistance.
