Description
Piperacillin is an extended-spectrum penicillin-class antibiotic used in microbiology research to investigate bacterial growth, cell wall synthesis, and β-lactam susceptibility. Derived from ampicillin, piperacillin acts by targeting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and interfering with the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links required for bacterial cell wall integrity.
