Putrescine, free base

Description

Putrescine, free base is a naturally occurring diamine and one of the simplest members of the polyamine family. In cells, putrescine is produced primarily through the decarboxylation of ornithine by ornithine decarboxylase and serves as a metabolic precursor for the synthesis of the higher polyamines spermidine and spermine. These polyamines participate in processes associated with cellular growth, proliferation, nucleic acid interactions, and regulation of gene expression.

As the free base form, this molecular biology grade putrescine provides you with the parent compound for biochemical and cellular studies where a salt form is not required. It is useful for investigating polyamine biosynthesis and metabolism, ornithine decarboxylase activity, cell proliferation, and the biological functions of putrescine and downstream polyamines.
