Dequalinium chloride is a quinolinium ion composed of symmetrical quaternary quinolinium units, one 4-amino-2-methylquinolin-1-yl group on each end of the molecule in place of a methyl hydrogen. It is a quaternary ammonium cation and forms an organic chloride salt. Its biological roles include antifungal agent and inhibitor of mitochondrial NADH ubiquione reductase. Medically, dequalinium chloride is the active ingredient of pharmaceuticals against bacterial infections and malaria; it has been applied as an antifungal, antinematadol and antiseptic drug.

Deferoxamine mesylate is the salt version of Deferoxamine, a bacterial siderophore produced by actinobacteria Streptomyces pilosus, with many medical applications. Since it chelates with iron and aluminum it is useful for removing excesses of both metals from the body. It has an anti-proliferative effect on vascular smooth muscles cells both in vitro and in vivo. Deferoxamine also induces apoptosis in many cells in less than a day, and can possibly be used as both an anti-cancer agent and an antimicrobial.

It stimulates uptake of glutamine in the cerebral cortex and induces apoptosis. Additionally, it is an inhibitor of the sodium phosphate symporter and GR activator.

DEC inhibits arachidonic acid synthesis, which is a key component for a protective sheath formed by pre-larval W. bancrofti called microfilaria.

Diethylpyrocarbonate (DEPC) is a moisture sensitive product that will readily decompose to ethanol and carbon dioxide in aqueous solution. DEPC can inhibit ryanodine binding to the ryanodine/Ca2+ receptor channel in a dose-and time-dependent manner, or work as a nuclease inhibitor. DEPC is often used to treat water used in the handling of RNA to remove RNases and reduce the risk of the RNA being degraded.

Difloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic targeting gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria as well as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Additionally, it has shown efficacy against Chlamydia trachomatis. Difloxacin has been used to study the effects of magnesium supplementation on quinolone-induced damage in animal models. Difloxacin HCl is freely soluble in aqueous solution.
