6-Chloro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-cellobioside is a chromogenic substrate for β-D-Cellobiosidase that yields a pink substrate.

6-Chloro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-glucuronic acid, cyclohexylammonium salt is a chromogenic β-glucuronidase substrate, which yields a salmon colored precipitate upon cleavage.

6-Cyclohexylhexyl-4-O-(a-D-glucopyranosyl)-b-D-glucopyranoside, more commonly known as Cymal-6, is a maltose based detergent. Maltoside based detergents are mostly used to solubilize and purify membrane proteins.

7-Nitroindole is a reagent used in chemical synthesis. It has been used in the synthesis of protein kinase and inosine monophosphate inhibitors, beta3 agonists and CCK-1 receptor modulators. 7-Nitroindole has also been used as a photochemical precursor of the 2’-deoxyribonolactone analog.

Bluo-Gal is used as an alternative to X-Gal, and produces a darker blue color. Bluo-Gal is hydrolyzed by β-galactosidase to produce a blue precipitate. This precipitate is insoluble in alcohol and xylenes, thus making it suitable for immunoblotting and immunocytochemical assays. Bacterial colonies containing active β-galactosidase produce blue colonies when grown on plates containing Bluo-Gal.

Chlorophenol red beta-D-galactopyranoside (CPRG) is a substrate that produces a dark red precipitate in the presence of β-galactosidase.

Lapis-Caprylate is a chromogenic substrate for esterase with C8 activity. Lapis-Caprylate yields a blue colored precipitate when cleaved.
