4-Methoxyindole is used in a variety of preparation procedures. It is a reactant involved in the synthesis of GABA analogs, HIV-1 integrase inhibitors, anticancer agents, sodium-dependent glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, integrase strand-transfer inhibitors (INSTIs), and isomeridianin G. Additionally, it is used in reverse-phase liquid chromatography analysis of the reaction of β-cyclodextrin and pindolol.

2'-C-Methylcytidine is a nucleoside analog with antiviral properties. It has shown be a potent replication inhibitor, in vivo, towards multiple RNA viruses including hepatitus C virus (HCV). 2'-C-Methylcytidine has been shown inhibit viral RNA polymerase, disrupting replicon formation and preventing viral proliferation. While 2'-C-Methycytidine is a strong antiviral, it has exhibited low oral bioavailability.

Miltefosine is a biologically active alkylphospholipid that inhibits protein kinase C and phosphatidylcholine synthesis. It has been shown to induce apoptosis of a variety of cancer cell lines. Additionally, miltefosine is used against leishmaniasis and metronidazole-resistant and -susceptible strains of Trichomonas vaginalis. It is studied for its potential use as an anticancer agent.

2-Naphthyl-α-D-glucopyranoside is a substrate for α-glucosidase. 2-naphthol is released upon hydrolyzation. By simultaneous coupling with a suitable staining reagent, such as hexazonium p-rosaniline, the corresponding red-brown azo-dye is formed. Naphthols can also be detected by fluorescence analysis.

Tazobactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor useful in combination with β-lactam antibiotics to increase their potency. It irreversibly inactivates β-lactamase enzymes, preventing them from degrading β-lactam antibiotics. Tazobactam has been used in combination with piperacillin and a variety of other antibiotics. Tazobactam is less soluble in aqueous solution than tazobactam sodium.
