Benzamidine hydrochloride monohydrate is an aromatic amidine. It is used in protein extractions as a strong reversible inhibitor of serine proteases such as trypsin, thrombin, plasmin and other trypsin-like proteases. Compared to aprotinin, benzamidine is considered to be just as effective in preventing the degradation of glucogon.

Mammalian Cell Lysis Buffer has been developed for extraction of total soluble proteins from mammalian cultured cells. Octylthioglucoside is a nonionic detergent that has been used to isolate membrane proteins without inactivation. This product is effective in a variety of protein solubilization and cell lysis processes. And detergents of this nature are ideal when studying the conformation and structure of proteins because the secondary and tertiary structures remain intact.

Compared to octylglucoside, octylthioglycoside is more stable. And it is stable in aqueous solution and easily removed by dialysis. This product is intended for use as a detergent to solubilize membrane-bound proteins in their native state.

Rapamycin is a macrolide antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces hygroscopicus. It has been shown to display anticancer activity such as induction of apoptosis and inhibition of angiogenesis and proliferation in tumor cell lines. Rapamycin is also an immunosuppressant and FRAP inhibitor and inhibits lymphokine-induced cell proliferation.

Trypsin is a serine protease found in the digestive system of many vertebrates where it hydrolyzes proteins. Through trypsinisation, it cleaves peptides at the carboxyl side of arginine and lysine, unless they are followed by a proline.

Trypsin has an optimal operating pH of about 7.5-8.5 and optimal operating temperature of about 37°C. Unlike chymotrypsin, the activity of trypsin is not affected by the inhibitor tosyl phenylalanyl chloromethyl ketone (TPCK).

Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces erythreus. It displays strong efficacy against gram-positive cocci and bacilli and some mycobacteria, mycoplasma, and spirochetes. In addition to its antimicrobial properties, erythromycin is a motilin receptor agonist that has been shown to inhibit respiratory glycoconjugate secretion in vitro. It has also been used to select for recombinant Lactococcus lactis MG1363 strains in microbiological applications.

Tetrazolium red is used to visualize dehydrogenase enzyme activity. Initially, the tetrazolium solution is colorless but changes to red when it comes into contact with hydrogen. Tetrazolium red is used in a biochemical viability test for seeds. The test relies on dehydrogenase enzymes to release hydrogen ions, which subsequently reduce the colorless tetrazolium salt solution to a red compound called formazan. Living cells turn red while dead cells remain colorless.
