Micro Agar is a purified agar with a high gel strength and excellent properties for use in plant cell and tissue culture, as well as microbiological work. Micro Agar can be used in a minimal concentration of 5.5 g/L to obtain a solid gel.

Trimethoprim is a bactericidal antibiotic effective against bacteria responsible for urinary tract infections, prostatitis, and cystitis. It is commonly combined with sulfamethoxazole to combat Staphylococcus aureus. Trimethoprim lactate is a freely soluble form of trimethoprim. GoldBio also offers Trimethoprim, which contains only the pure active ingredient, but is also less soluble.

TrueBlack™ is a new alternative to Sudan Black B for the quenching of lipofuscin autofluorescence in tissue sections for immunofluorescence staining. Lipofuscin consists of highly autofluorescent granules of oxidized proteins and lipids that build up in the lysosomes of aging cells. Lipofuscin granules fluoresce brightly in all channels used for fluorescence microscopy and accumulate in a variety of cell and tissue types with age. It’s necessary to quench or mask lipofuscin fluorescence in certain adult human tissues or aged animal tissues in order to properly image specific immunofluorescence signals.

Sudan Black B has traditionally been used to quench lipofuscin autofluorescence by incubating tissue sections with the dye after immunofluorescence staining. However it also introduces uniform, non-specific background fluorescence in the red and far-red channels, limiting the use of fluorescent dyes in those wavelengths.

Bromophenol blue is a dye for tracking proteins and nucleic acids in gel electrophoresis. Bromophenol blue migrates at about the same rate as ~500bp DNA in a 1% agarose gel and at the buffer front in protein polyacrylamide gels.

BES is a zwitterionic buffering agent used in biochemistry and molecular biology that was first selected and described by Good et al. It is a bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amine buffer that is useful for a pH range of 6.4 – 7.8. It is soluble in water at 0°C up to 3.2M. Like most neutral, amine-based buffers, BES forms a complex with DNA. It interferes with reactions between DNA and restriction enzymes to a lesser extent than similar buffers with less substituted amine groups, such as Tris. This lack of interference occurs because steric hindrance of the protonated tertiary amine in BES shields the negative charge of DNA to a lesser extent than less substituted buffers. BES can be used in a buffered saline solution in the calcium phosphate mediated transfection of eukaryotic cells with plasmid DNA. BES also forms a complex with certain metals, including copper and cobalt. Though BES binds to coppers ions, it is still suitable for use with the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay. Diminished protein-induced color development can be accounted for or even eliminated by precipitating protein prior to reaction with bicinchoninic acid.

Chlorophenol red beta-D-galactopyranoside (CPRG) is a substrate that produces a dark red precipitate in the presence of β-galactosidase.

4-Methylumbelliferyl-α-D-glucopyranoside is a fluorogenic substrate for the identification, characterization and kinetic analysis of α-glucosidase activity. It is routinely used as a substrate for the assay of acid α-glucosidase in the diagnosis of Pompe's disease.

The BLUEstain™ Low Range Protein Ladder, 2 to 40 kDa is a ready-to-use three-color protein standard with 6 pre-stained proteins covering a range of molecular weights from 2 to 40 kDa. Proteins are covalently coupled with a blue chromophore except for two reference bands (one green and one red band at 10 kDa and 40 kDa respectively) when separated on SDS-PAGE.

BLUEstain™ Low Range Protein Ladder is designed for monitoring protein separation during SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, verification of Western transfer efficiency on membranes (PVDF or nitrocellulose) and for approximating the molecular weight of small proteins. Aztreonam is a monobactam β-lactam antibiotic whose structure contains only a single ring. Its unique ring structure makes it resistant to β-lactamases. Aztreonam is effective against gram-negative bacteria and is an economical antibiotic commonly used in plant tissue culture applications and against P. aeruginosa.

Solubilized amphotericin B is a mixture of 45% amphotericin B, 37% sodium deoxycholate, and 18% phosphate buffer.

Amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal isolated from Streptomyces species. While it has been suggested that Amphotericin B interacts with ergosterol of the fungal cell membrane leading to an altered cell membrane permeability and death, more recent studies show that the mechanism behind amphotericin B’s fungicidal activity is more complex. It is most effective against fungi and yeast and is often used against opportunistic fungal infections and leishmaniasis. Additionally, amphotericin B can be used to prevent growth of F. oxysporum in chickpea and P. triticina in wheat.

C-kit ligand, the recently identified ligand for the kit tyrosine kinase receptor, is mapped to the mouse S1 locus. This pleiotropic cytokine, alternately known as stem cell factor (SCF), mast cell growth factor (MGF) and steel-factor (SLF), plays essential roles in gametogenesis, melanogenesis and early stages of hematopoiesis. In vitro and in vivo, KITLG can stimulate the proliferation of mature, as well as the proliferation and maturation of immature, mast cells. KITLG acts in a synergistic manner on purified primitive human and mouse hematopoietic precursors, with various growth factors (such as IL1, IL3, IL6, IL7, and Epo), to induce myeloid, erythroid and lymphoid lineage colony formation. The finding that KITLG is also expressed in the nervous system suggests a possible role for KITLG in the development of the nervous system.

Bis-acrylamide is the most frequently used crosslinking agent for protein separation applications in polyacrylamide gels. Bis-acrylamide powder is freely soluble in water (20 mg/mL) and 2% bis-acrylamide solution is a standard solution used in most electrophoresis applications.

Bis-acrylamide is used to create crosslinks between acrylamide to generate polyacrylamide gel in electrophoresis gels. The ratio of bis-acrylamide to acrylamide manipulates the porous characteristics of the polyacrylamide gel.
