Description
SAA1 is a positive acute phase apolipoprotein reactant that associates with HDL. It is expressed predominantly by hepatocytes in the liver and secreted into plasma, but is also expressed and secreted by adipocytes, endothelial cells, and peripheral monocytes. Expression of SAA1 is induced by LPS and by a variety of cytokines such as IL1, IL6, and TNF. Induction causes a dramatic increase of SAA1 levels in blood, indicating that it may play a short-term role in response to injury and inflammation. SAA1 can aggregate into insoluble fibrils that are deposited in various tissues or organs and disrupt normal function, a condition known as amyloidosis. Amyloidosis of SAA1 is associated with rheumatoid arthritis. SAA1 induces the synthesis of a variety of cytokines and proteinases and inhibits proliferation of endothelial cells. When not bound to HDL, it is chemotactic for monocytes, phagocytes, CD4(+) and CD8(+) T-cells, and polymorphonuclear leukocytes. SAA1 is a ligand for CD36/SR-B3, SR-B1, FPRL1, TLR2, and RAGE.

Q6471 | 250 mL | $ 45.00 |
Description
GoldBio Safe-Soap (also called SequeSoap) is used to clean the glass plates that are commonly used for acrylamide gels!
You demand crisp bands on your gels. But repeated use of glass plates for gels leaves behind carbonate and silicate residue, chemical deposits and microscopic scratches on plate surfaces that can lead to tears in the gel when separating the plates following the run.

Description
Salinomycin is a coccidiostat ionophore antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces albus. It increases cation movement across cell membranes through exchange-diffusion, resulting in altered gradients due to a lack of control of ion permeability. This effect allows ions (K+, Na+, Ca+, Mg2+) to accumulate inside the cell, reaching toxic levels.

Description
Salmon Gal (6-Chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-galactopyranoside) is used with IPTG as an alternative chromogenic substrate capable of detecting LacZ gene encoded ß-galactosidase activity for colony screening in colometric assays.
Unlike colony blue/white screening through X-Gal, nonrecombination results in a salmon color after salmon gal is cleaved by ß-galactosidase through hydrolysis. This contrast may be useful in comparative or secondary screenings.
Incorporating nitroblue tetrazolium salt (NBT) into the salmon gal reactions provides faster results with a clear, purple precipitate than in unaccompanied uses of salmon gal.

SERPINF1, Human
Catalog ID | Size | Pricing | |
---|---|---|---|
1120-08-5 | 5 μg | $ 115.00 |
Description
Serpin Peptidase Inhibitory, clade F (SERPINF1), previously called Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), is encoded by the SERPINF1 gene in humans and found in vertebrates. It is a secreted phosphoglycoprotein that belongs to the clade F subfamily, serpin superfamily of proteinase inhibitors. SERPINF1 is a noninhibitory serpin with neurotrophic, anti-angiogenic, and anti-tumorigenic properties. It is synthesized as a 418 amino acid, ~50 kDa precursor that contains a 19 amino acid signal sequence and a 399 amino acid mature region that shows a pyroglutamate at Gln20. Like other serpins, it contains three β-sheets, 810 α-helices, and a C-terminal RCL (reactive center loop). Unlike other serpins with Ser protease inhibiting activity, SERPINF1 has induces extensive neuronal differentiation in retinoblastoma cells, inhibiting of angiogenesis. As it does not undergo the S (stressed) to R (relaxed) conformational transition characteristic of active serpins, it exhibits no serine protease inhibitory activity. SERPINF1 is researched as a therapeutic candidate for treatment of such conditions as choroidal neovascularization, heart disease, and cancer.

Description
Members of the Hedgehog (Hh) family are highly conserved proteins that are widely represented throughout the animal kingdom. The three known mammalian Hh proteins, Sonic (Shh), Desert (Dhh) and Indian (Ihh), are structurally related and share a high degree of amino acid sequence identity. Each Hh protein has a unique expression pattern and distinct biological role within its respective region of secretion. All Hh proteins use the same signaling pathway and can substitute for each other in experimental systems. Shh has been found to have a critical role in development, acting as a morphogen in the patterning of limbs, brain structure, spinal cord, thalamus and the teeth. Shh has been shown to attract commissural axons in the developing spinal cord by attracting or repelling retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axons depending on concentration.

Description
Sodium polyanetholesulfonate (SPS) is a homopolymer that was developed to be used as an anticoagulant. It is commonly used in blood culture media for bacteria because it inhibits the antimicrobial activity of immune system components present in blood. SPS inhibits the growth of some microorganisms, but this effect if often media-dependent and can be overcome by addition of gelatin or lysed blood. SPS is a weaker anticoagulant than heparin, most likely due to inhibition of antithrombin III, but a stronger inducer of platelet aggregation. It has also been used to stabilize colloidal suspensions.

Description
Pyruvic acid is the simplest alpha-keto acid, and is considered to be key in several metabolic processes. Because pyruvate, which is the carboxylate ion of pyruvic acid, can be converted into carbohydrates, fatty acids or energy, it is a uniting intermediate compound and its fate depends on the organism and environment.
It is produced during glycolysis, and through the Krebs cycle (citric acid cycle), it supplies cells with energy. Two molecules of pyruvate are produced from one glucose molecule. Pyruvate is then converted into acetyl-coenzyme A used in the Krebs cycle.
In gluconeogenesis, pyruvic acid can be converted back into glucose or glycogen, and in environments with low oxygen, pyruvic acid is broken down anaerobically into lactic acid.
Clinically, the lactate-to-pyruvate ratio can assist in diagnosing mitochondrial respiratory chain disorders because the ratio is often, but not always elevated in these cases. There is also a lower ratio typically observed in inherited pyruvate metabolic disorders.
