Description
FGF21 is a member of the Fibroblast Growth Factor family of proteins. It is in the same endocrine signaling subfamily as FGF19 and FGF23. FGF21 is a heparin-binding ligand for FGFR1c and FGFR4 that requires the presence of beta-klotho. Expression of FGF21 mRNA has been observed in the liver, the thymus, and several types of adipose tissue. It has been shown to stimulate glucose incorporation in differentiated adipocytes, independent of insulin activity. It has been suggested that FGF21 also acts as key regulator in the adaptation to stress.

Description
FGF23 is a member of the Fibroblast Growth Factor family of proteins. In the FGF family, FGF23 is most closely associated with FGF15/19 and FGF21 (see additional information). FGF23 shares 71% homology with mouse Fgf23 at the amino acid level. FGF23 is produced by osteocytes and osteoblasts in response to high circulating phosphate levels, elevated parathyroid hormone, and circulatory volume loading. It functions as an endocrine phosphatonin by suppressing circulating phosphate levels. FGF23 interaction with renal proximal tubular epithelium decreases the renal resorption of phosphate by down regulating phosphate transporters and by suppressing vitamin D production. It also decreases the intestinal absorption of phosphate.

Description
FGF4 is a member of the Fibroblast Growth Factor family of proteins and was first identified by its oncogenic activity. It plays an important role in embryonic development, acting as an autocrine or paracrine ligand through the FGFR 1c, 2c, 3c, and 4 receptors to support stem cell self-renewal. It is believed that FGF4, with the combined activity one or more apical ectodermal ridge FGFs (FGF2, FGF4, FGF8, and FGF9) works in a positive feedback loop with SHH to control limb development.

Description
FGF9 is a member of the Fibroblast Growth Factor family of proteins. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF9 targets glial cells, astrocytes and other cells that express FGFR 1c, 2c, 3b, 3c and 4. FGF9 is a potent mitogen for both prostatic epithelial and stromal cells in culture and is an abundant, secreted growth factor that can act as both a paracrine mitogen for epithelial cells and as an autocrine mitogen for stromal cells. There is a 99% amino acid sequence homology between human, mouse and rat FGF9 proteins. In the FGF family, FGF9 is most closely associated with FGF16 and FGF20 (see additional information).

Description
FLT3LG is a hematopoietic cytokine whose activities are mediated by binding to the transmembrane glycoprotein Flt3. Flt3 was first discovered as a member of the class III subfamily of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTK) whose expression among hematopoietic cells was found to be restricted to highly enriched stem/progenitor cell populations. Additionally, class III RTKs include the receptors from SCF, CSF3 and PDGF. Not surprisingly, FLT3LG is also structurally related to CSF3 and SCF. All three cytokines have been shown to exist both as type I transmembrane proteins and as soluble proteins. The predominant human FLT3LG isoform is a transmembrane protein that can undergo proteolytic cleavage to generate a soluble form of the protein. An alternatively-spliced FLT3LG mRNA, encoding a soluble form of the human FLT3LG, has also been identified. FLT3LG is widely expressed in various human and mouse tissues. At the amino acid sequence level, human and mouse FLT3LG are approximately 72% identical and the two proteins exhibit cross-species activity. FLT3LG has been shown to synergize with a wide variety of hematopoietic cytokines to stimulate the growth and differentiation of early hematopoietic progenitors.

Description
Glia maturation factor beta is an actin-binding protein that shows sequence similarity to the ADF/ cofilin family. It is expressed in the cytosol and on the cell surface of astrocytes and interacts with target receptors in a juxtacrine manner. GMFB is involved in the differentiation of glial cells and neurons. It stimulates axon regeneration and proliferation of astroblasts, and inhibits proliferation of tumors. It also reversibly inhibits proliferation of neuronal and non-neuronal neoplastic cells by arresting the cell cycle in the G0/G1 phase. It is suggested that GMFB acts an intracellular regulator of signal pathways.

Description
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an infectious, and potentially fatal, human disease that causes serious liver disease. There are three start codons on the Gene S HBV surface protein antigen (HBsAg) that divide the gene into three sections: pre-S1, pre-S2, and S. These start sites create three carboxyl, coterminal polypeptides that are called large (LHB, the order from surface to the inside: pre-S1, pre-S2, and S), middle (MHB, containing the pre-S2 and S portion) and small (SHB, covering only the S portion). The pre-S1 amino acid region of LHBs consists of 119 amino acids and has been shown to interact with its human binding partner, γ2-adaptin, to subvert the membrane-trafficking apparatus to mediate virion export. HBsAg-PreS1 can be used for Immunochromatography, monoclonal and polyclonal antibody preparation or for ELISA analysis.

Description
HEPES sodium salt is a buffering agent used in biochemistry and molecular biology that was selected and described by Good et al. It is a zwitterionic, piperazinic buffer that is useful for a pH range of 6.8 – 8.2. HEPES lacks the ability to form a significant complex with most metal ions and is recommended for use as a non-coordinating buffer in solutions with metal ions. It is commonly used in cell culture media and as an ampholytic separator to create a pH gradient in isoelectric focusing. HEPES interferes with reactions between DNA and restriction enzymes to a lesser extent than similar buffers with less substituted amine groups, such as Tris. This lack of interference occurs because steric hindrance of the protonated tertiary amine in HEPES shields the negative charge of DNA to a lesser extent than less substituted buffers. This buffer is capable of forming radicals and is therefore not suitable for redox reactions. It is suitable for use in the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay.

Description
HEPPSO is a buffering agent used in biochemistry and molecular biology that was selected and described by Good et al. It is a zwitterionic, piperazinic buffer that is useful for a pH range of 7.1 – 8.5. It is commonly used as an ampholytic separator to create a pH gradient in isoelectric focusing. HEPPSO displays no toxicity for crustaceans with which it has been studied and has been deemed suitable for toxicological studies. This buffer is capable of forming radicals and is therefore not suitable for redox reactions. HEPPSO forms a complex with Cu(II) ions so stability constants and concentrations should be taken into consideration when using this buffer in a solution containing copper ions. Though HEPPSO binds to coppers ions, it is still suitable for use with the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay. Diminished protein-induced color development can be accounted for or even eliminated by precipitating protein prior to reaction with bicinchoninic acid.

Hexadecylpyridinium bromide
Catalog ID | Size | Pricing | |
---|---|---|---|
H-615-100 | 4 x 25 g | $ 80.00 |
Description
Hexadecylpyridinium bromide is a cationic surfactant capable of bactericidal activity and has been used for ion exchange. As a bactericidal agent, it reduces the surface tension between pathogenic membranes and their environments. This interaction disrupts membrane integrity and osmoregulation, leading to cell lysis.
Hexadecylpyridinium bromide has also been shown to quickly and efficiently remove metal ions from solutions. The compound removes cations from solution through a cation/surfactant complex which precipitates from an aqueous phase into an organic phase and can subsequently be extracted. Hexadecylpyridinium bromide is an effective ion exchange agent for extracting DNA and proteins.
